Pokemon Aqua Blue

Pokemon Aqua Blue (Demo)

 Story:

This takes place after the events of Fire Red.
You are an average kid living in Saffron City. You're looking forward to your first ever Pokemon coming in through an ordering service, and after several weeks of waiting the day has finally arrived! Professor Oak contacts your mother and prepares to meet you in the Saffron City Pokecenter. However, when you arrive, things don't quite go as planned.

During your visit at the Pokecenter, a meteor crashes into Silph. Co.! Before you know it, you're hurled into an adventure larger than you're prepared for. Upon arriving at Silph. Co., you find nothing but rubble and three mysterious figures who later reveal themselves to be Team Rocket. When things take a turn for the worst, you're forced to battle with them and you find out the Pokemon you ordered was shiny! Despite your victory, they manage to steal the meteor.

After a heated battle you black out only to wake up back in your home, being greeted by Professor Oak and your mother. Oak explains that the meteor is the cause of your Pokemon's alternate color, and instead of cataloguing the Pokedex, he asks you to collect fragments that fell off the meteor so they can further be studied.

This adventure leads you all over Kanto, including regions previously only found in the Anime.

Legendary Battles

Legendary battles in Aqua Blue are no joke. All legendary battles consist of multiple battles chained together with "Powered up" versions of the original Legendary pokemon.

A powered up pokemon has a perfect moveset, as well as increased stats in every field. While these pokemon are powered up, they are unable to be captured and you must faint them in order to weaken them. Once weakened, they are able to be captured.

Depending on the legendary pokemon, it may have the ability to only die from having a status condition, or to be confused and to kill its self. It may also have the ability to heal every turn. These extra abilities are called "Strong will".

The pokemon may also inflict an instant status condition on your party going into battle, so be prepared to use items to take them down.

Zonewide Gameplay Mechanics

A good example of what zonewide gameplay mechanics are is Gringey City. Gringey city is known to be a very polluted place in the anime. Although the towns people promised ash they would clean it up, this hasn't been the case. Instead, the pollution has only become worse. Because of this, the moment you step foot onto the toxic soil, every pokemon in your party is poisoned. The only way around this is to capture a poison pokemon of your own so it can eat the poison off of your party.

I want to give a reason for having pokemon beyond just battling with them. This also gives players a reason to carry pokemon that they previously wouldn't bother with. I feel this is what Gamefreak was originally trying to do with HMs, but this obviously failed. At least this way you have the ability to choose what pokemon you want and still be able to choose their movesets. You can see the effects in action in the screenshots below.

Loot System / Crafting

This is probably the most unique thing about Aqua blue. Whenever you enter a battle with a wild pokemon and faint that pokemon, you have a chance to receive an item from them. This is similar to held items, however these items are only obtained if you faint them. The deciding factor on what items you receive are based off of the evolution stage of the pokemon as follows:

Basic Pokemon with evolution:
2/3 chance for Ruined Core
1/3 chance for Common Core

First Evolution & Basic Pokemon with no evolution:
1/3 chance for Ruined Core
1/3 chance for Common Core
1/3 chance for Rare Core

Second Evolution:
1/3 chance for Ruined Core
1/3 chance for Rare Core
1/3 chance for Epic Core

These items can be used for several purposes while playing Aqua Blue, including being sold for profit, redeeming for new custom moves, or for crafting Legendary Held items. This gives players incentive to use less repels, and to look forward to their next battle beyond XP.

Death System

You hear about Pokemon being able to die in the Manga, as well as in Lavender town, but in all official Pokemon games, this hasn't been done. In order to give a sense of danger to pokemon, I am adding a 1/5 chance to kill a Pokemon when it faints. This is one of the only features that hasn't currently been added to the engine as I'm still working out just what will happen when it faints.

To increase the danger, you will also not be able to use revives in battle.

EDIT:
The way I have decided to do this is to turn the pokemon into the species "Ghost" and to change its hp to 0/0. This way you can always remember the pokemon, and be able to take items off of it. I'm probably going to make an event for giving these pokemon to lavender tower rather than releasing them. I've added new screenshots to reflect this. There is a slight bug with this when you give the ghost rare candies or stat changing things. I'm trying to fix this before I release the death system.

Joining Team Rocket

I tried to make this as non-gimicky as possible, as I know for vetran players, this is something that has always wanted to be done. While you are a team rocket member, you're able to purchase stolen goods at lower prices, this includes items that you wouldn't normally see until later in the game, inlcuding XX attack etc, and XXX attack etc. This also effects how you interact with Team Rocket, as you will have access to most Rocket buildings and won't need to take back doors or battle most Rocket members. However if you join Team Rocket, they will take a cut of your earnings from each battle. This cut usually leaves you quite poor. You get the goods, but you'll more or less always be only using Team Rocket goods.

FAKEMON

I'm not planning on overdoing it with Fakemon, but I will be adding in a new Eeveelution, Appeareon (Ghost Type) to celebrate the new pokedeath system. I will also be re-inventing Missingno and turning him into an actual pokemon. There will be a few more that you acquire on your way to the top, but I don't want to ruin the surprise!

Credits

To be honest, I could probably name just about everyone on this forum, as well as PHO. I've spent a lot of time digging through threads trying to find just the right things that would make this game perfect.
When this gets closer to a release, I'll be sure to include everyone that had anything to do with the game.
For now I'll list off of the top of my head:
FBI - Tons of ASM, documentation, personal help, Death system, loot system, cardboard box script, % decrease on joining team rocket
JPAN - Base engine, documentation
Mr. Dollsteak - Decap / Attack patch
locksmitharmy - Inverse Battles
Chaos Rush - Tons of stuff, friendship checker conversion, Pokemon sprites, Battle animations
DoesntKnowHowToPlay - Tons of ASM, including the IVs on the status screen
Shiny Quagsire - Tons of ASM, documentation, etc
Klofkac - First person view research
Jambo51 - Tons of ASM, documentation

A big thanks to everyone for all that you've done!
